Kemp worked for the IRS for over 25 years as a Special Agent and became an Enrolled Agent in 2003 upon retiring from the IRS. An Enrolled Agent is similar to a CPA. However, the experience he has from the IRS allows him to practice under IRS rules in all states. An Enrolled Agent is the only tax professional licensed not by a state but by the Internal Revenue Service and can practice and represent clients from every state. There are only a few functions that an Enrolled Agent can't perform that a CPA can, for example:
- auditing a publicly traded company
- preparing a certified financial statement for a bid limit increase for a construction company
Kemp also taught in the Accounting Department in the College of Business at the University of Nevada for 18 years and has prepared thousands of tax returns for his clients over the past 20 years.
